Plotwist (“we,” “us”) makes AI-generated party games — Bingo, Would You Rather, Trivia, Who’s Most Likely To, and Hot Takes — at plotwist.games. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who we share it with. We try to keep it plain and specific to how the product actually works, rather than a wall of boilerplate.
What we collect
We keep data collection to what the product needs to run:
- Account email. We use passwordless “magic link” sign-in, so we store the email address you sign in with. We do not store passwords.
- Game content. The prompts, occasions, names, and other text you enter to generate a game, plus the games we generate for you.
- Payment data. When you buy a game or subscribe, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe does. We keep a record of your purchases and subscription status.
- Product analytics. If you opt in, we use PostHog to understand which features get used, which demos help, and where people get stuck. This includes page views and in-app events associated with an analytics identifier. We do not send your email address to PostHog. Live player pages do not load browser analytics; we record only anonymous server-side counts for joins, game starts, completions, and operational failures. Those counts do not include a game ID, player name or ID, vote, answer, or game content and do not create a PostHog person profile.
- Advertising & measurement (future). We may in the future add advertising or measurement pixels (for example, to run ads or measure their effectiveness). We are noting this now so it is not a surprise; this policy will be updated with specifics before any such pixels go live.
How we use it
We use the data above to:
- Create and store the games you ask for, and let you share and play them.
- Sign you in, remember your entitlements, and process payments.
- Send you the emails you need (magic links, receipts, and account notices).
- Understand product usage in aggregate so we can fix and improve things.
- Keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your private game content to train third-party AI models. Optional party ideas and feedback emails are sent only when you opt in from your account.
Third-party processors
To run Plotwist we rely on a small set of trusted providers. Each only receives the data it needs to do its job:
- Vercel — website hosting and server-side application delivery.
- Supabase — database, authentication, and storage for your account and games.
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing.
- PostHog — product analytics.
- Resend — transactional email delivery (magic links, receipts).
- Anthropic — the AI that generates your games from your prompts.
Data retention
We keep your account and purchased games while your account is active. Free-tier games stop working 5 days after creation and their game and player data is deleted within 30 days after expiry. Short-lived, pseudonymous request fingerprints used for abuse prevention are retained for no more than two days. Payment records are retained as required for accounting and tax purposes. If you delete your account, we remove associated game and profile data except where we must keep records by law.
Your rights
You can request access to the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data. To make a request, email us at hello@plotwist.games. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA.
Children’s privacy
Plotwist is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or make purchases. Adults may host a game that children join under their supervision; guests should use a nickname rather than a full legal name. We do not ask players for an age, email address, or account, and live player pages do not load browser analytics. We use only the anonymous reliability counts described above. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
